File specification for emissions calculation results

Updated over a year ago

Where emissions estimates have been calculated successfully, a new CSV file containing the results will be created. The file will have all of the original shipment data together with additional columns added to hold the results of the calculations.

For freight emissions, the total emissions include those emissions from well-to-tank and tank-to-wheel. Read more about TTW, WTT and WTW.

For scenarios where the asset (vehicle, vessel) is not owned (this is what is assumed by default unless otherwise stated), these will usually all be Scope 3 emissions e.g.

WTT + TTW = WTW = Scope 3

These numbers will be reported in CO₂e. Read more about CO₂e.

The TTW number can be further broken down into greenhouse gases and other pollutants. Where this is possible, these numbers will also be included.

The full specification of the additional columns is therefore:

Column

Data Type

Mandatory

CO2_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of CO₂ to 3 decimal places.

CO₂ (Carbon dioxide) is the main greenhouse gas.

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

CH4_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of CH to 3 decimal places.

CH(Methane) is a major greenhouse gas and is converted to CO₂e based a global warming potential of 25.

Learn more about CO₂e

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

N2O_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of N₂O to 3 decimal places.

N₂O (Nitrous oxide) is a greenhouse gas and is converted to CO₂e based a global warming potential of 298.

Learn more about CO₂e

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

NOX_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of NOₓ to 3 decimal places.

NOₓ (Nitrogen oxides) are pollutants and are a group of gases that are mainly formed during the combustion of fossil fuels and are harmful to health.

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

SO2_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of SO₂ to 3 decimal places.

SO₂ (Sulphur dioxide) is a pollutant and is a corrosive, acidic gas.

Direct exposure to SO₂ is associated with asthma and chronic bronchitis and can lead to irritation and constriction of the airways. SO₂ is also known to combine with nitrogen oxides and ammonia to form particulate matter which has serious health implications.

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

PM_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of PM to 3 decimal places.

PM (Particulate matter) is a pollutant.

Particulate Matter (PM) is everything in the air that is not a gas and as such it is made up from a huge variety of chemical compounds and materials some of which can be toxic. Due to the small size of many of the particles that form PM some of these toxins may enter the bloodstream and be transported around the body, lodging in the heart, brain and other organs.

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

NMHC_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of PM to 3 decimal places.

NMHC (Non-methane hydrocarbons) are pollutants.

A value will only be present when available for the relevant mode of transport, methodology and location e.g. detailed modelling of road freight in Europe.

No

CO2E_TTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The Tank-to-wheel (TTW) emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places.

Yes

CO2E_WTT

DECIMAL

Notes: The Well-to-tank (WTT) emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places.

Yes

CO2E_WTW

DECIMAL

Notes: The well-to-wheel (WTW) emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places.

Yes

CO2E_OTHER

DECIMAL

Notes: Other emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places.

No

CO2E_SCOPE_1

DECIMAL

Notes: The Scope 1 emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places. Scope 1 emissions are emissions from assets (vehicle/vessel) that are owned/operated directly.

No

CO2E_SCOPE_2

DECIMAL

Notes: The Scope 2 emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions e.g. the emissions caused when generating the electricity to charge electric vehicles.

No

CO2E_SCOPE_3

DECIMAL

Notes: The Scope 3 emissions in kg of CO₂e to 3 decimal places. Scope 3 emissions are value-chain emissions e.g. transportation and distribution using assets (vehicle/vessel) owned/operated by a third-party e.g. carrier.

No

ASSUMED_SCOPE_3_CATEGORY

INTEGER

Notes: The Scope 3 category. Usually 4 indicating Category 4 Upstream Transportation and Distribution unless otherwise configured.

No

ASSUMED_DISTANCE

DECIMAL

Notes: The transport distance, if explicitly provided.

No

ADJUSTED_DISTANCE

DECIMAL

Notes: The transport distance adjusted as per the methodology to account for detours etc. depending on whether a shortest feasible distance was determined by Pledge routing or whether an explicit measured transport distance was provided.

Yes

EMISSION_INTENSITY

DECIMAL

Notes: The emissions intensity in kg CO₂e per tonne-km. In other words, how much CO₂e emissions for each movement of one tonne over one kilometer.

Yes
